Back when I shot BPCRS, I went through quite a bit of powder. A couple of us drove to a distributor and bought a couple of CASES each so as to have the same lot number of powder. Other times I ordered by the case and had it delivered via UPS. Buying a few # at a time simply didn't make sense, and if I had to pay hazmat, I would be buying enough to offset shipping and hazmat cost.

I no longer shoot that game, and don't burn nearly as much powder, so am using up the residuals.

Worst case scenario for flintlock shooters is to be prepared/get aquainted with duplex loading. I would be looking at Triple 7.

Some years back I would order BP by the case (25 lbs). It really doesn't last as long as one would think; so I'd be getting ready to order another "too soon". I don't shoot nearly as much as I did back then and BP tends to last comfortably longer. Currently, I don't have even close to a case of BP but I've got enough to stay calm. It used to be quite economically priced but no longer.

I have trouble understanding that some people think 5 lbs of powder is a lot. If I were down to my last 5 lbs I'd be concerned. I'm sure it depends on how much you shoot, but I don't see any reason to think prices are going anywhere but up so you might as well stock up if you can.

I go through probably 5 pounds a year, but I also shoot a lot of modern/unmentionable stuff, so it is easy to stretch out the black powder.

I am planning to mess with a 32 and a 45 that I have yet to shoot to help stretch my powder supplies. Will fool with 58 minies this summer as well, which tend to burn up less powder per shot.

I bought a couple pounds back when it was just the supply getting low. I got lucky and bought the last of what my store had. I don't shoot a lot, so what I have hopefully will last until more becomes available. The guy at my store told me after Goex went south, that they were working a deal to buy Sheutzen powder.

Worse comes to worse I'll make my own. It's not hard to do.

Same here, when shooting BPCRS EVERY weekend my shooting partner and I went through a LOT of powder and would pick up several cases when returning from the nationals at Raton.
We joked if either of us had a wreck on the way home the other would know when he passed the smoking crater in the road.
When I get down to a case I think I am getting low.

And once I have it, I really don't care where it was made, like many BPCRS guys I preferred Swiss.

I think Goex was very clean and reliable. Look for the Dems to push hard for gun control
this year--and the one Bill I saw sought to regulate muzzle loaders requiring a permit.
Powder is sought to be regulated same as ammo. The method will be to regulate under
the Taxation angle. Just like they did with NFA (which is based in taxation Jurisdiction).
Because of this fear, people are stocking up and artificially increasing demand. Since
Black Powder can be stored forever, hoarders target it over substitutes. I am not
sure Democrats will get their way. Huge numbers of Democrats are gun owners.
Taking away rights is not popular with Americans, especially the right to self-defense.

I got Schuetzen from the distributor here in Phoenix in November. The guy doesn’t have a lot of info on his website, but when I emailed him he was very responsive. No hazard fee. No limits. I have enough now for a while. He only had FFg and Fg available when I bought mine.

I've advised our club members for years, every time you go out to shoot, put ten bucks in an envelope. You will generally have enough stashed away to pretty much cover a case.
