Morning, I’m from Sussex County. I’ve done some searching myself, and up here it’s even a challenge to find a gunsmith in general. I’m right here in the tri-state area, and smith’s in NY won’t even look at my stuff due to the legal complications. Most projects I’ve been learning to do on my own, but I haven’t had the need for any serious repairs.

And just as an update, we decided not to remove the breech plug given the potential that every time you remove and replace it it loosens up. When the gunsmith put the barrel scope down there we saw that the barrel was practically brand new. You could still see the rings on the breech plug from when it was milled. There was just extremely minor pitting (white haze) on one side of the barrel from powder burn but other than that, it looked almost brand new. He said he hasn't seen a barrel that clean before given the age of the gun. It's also rifled which I never anticipated as I thought that all these guns from that era were smooth bore. He said that whomever had the gun before me really took extremely good care of it. Since I wasn't spending money on breech plug removal, I opted to have him prepare and blue the barrel instead of me, so instead of me doing the cheapo cold bluing, he's doing the salt hot bluing and it should come out a 1000% better than I was going to do. I also ordered parts from Chiappa in Ohio and we'll see how they fit when they come in. Given that they're coming from Italy it may be 30 - 90 days. I'll post pics down the line hen all done.

Hopefully with all the 2A lawsuits that are going on right now given NY and NJ's unconstitutional laws, things may change in the future. Let's keep our fingers crossed!!

Digging up a little bit of an old post here...but try Griffin and Howe in Andover. It's and absolutely beautiful place, with very skilled smiths who typically work on 6 figure rifles, shotguns and antiques. They can pretty much do anything in house.
