Having found nothing as good as Black, I was "forced" to buy 25 pounds of true black. Goex. I could not find any gun shop anywhere in Upstate New York! or any company who would sell me a pound or two without charging me the exorbitant shipping fee. Ergo 25 pound s from track of the wolf and they wave the fees...

Anyway, how long do you think it will take me to use this stuff up? I have a 54 cal and an 58 cal flintlock and a couple of percussions that no longer interest me since becoming addicted to flint, (although I do also have a 50-90 that I intend to load up with black powder too just for the hoot it will be to put 90 grains of true black behind a big aresed Woodleigh 535 grainer round nosed boolit...

It'll last you a while. It really depends on how often you shoot, and what your charge weight is. At 70 grains per charge, you get 100 shots per pound. That's 2500 shots. Smaller calibers and pistols use less, so it goes even farther. No worries though, black powder lasts a very long time. I bought 25 pounds from Powder Inc., a year and a half ago. I still have almost half of it left. I haven't been shooting as much last year though, because of the time I'm putting in with my new business.

It'll probably take a while if you're just using rifles and pistols. Time to buy a cannon!

It would last me about 8 months depending on my work schedule. Work is really starting to interfere with the camping and shoots. My target loads are 35 gr and 50 gr, thats what I shoot eh most of in the summer, so powder does go a long way. BUT I like to shoot a lot.

when i was shooting in the matches. i would use a pound through the week then 1/2 at the match on sunday. 3-4 would go together and get a keg or 25lb balk then dvide it up. we would have to get a keg about once a month.

and we were shooting .40,.45 and .50 cal with charges from 40 to 60 gr.

Jim E. is the owner... I doubt it is more than a 35 minute drive from Ithaca, NY... there is a web site... try a web search...

that 50-90 load will jar the fillings in yer teeth unless you have a heavy coat on! maybe yo'll run into a BP shooter that will take a few lbs of yer hands - you have enough to last 6-8 years there.

IN BP cartridges, you can load less powder by using fillers to fill the rest of the casing to the base of the bullet. A thin fiber wad over the powder, followed by corn meal to the top of the casing, will compress nicely when the bullet is seated in the case. If you have a punch, you can cut out discs of wax paper, and put them down over the powder to separate the powder from the filler. Any filler will protect the base of the bullet from burning, and you can load 50,60, or 70 grains of FFFg powder in that big .50-90 casing, and get a nice, light load to shoot in the gun.

You can also load lighter bullets, in the 300 grain range, to reduce the recoil. They may not be accurate much beyond 100 yards, but you can get good accuracy with them, at the shorter ranges.

I use 25 to 35 Lbs. of 3 F per year. I use about 1 Lb. of 4F per. 25 Lbs. I use this mostly in .54 flinters and .62 smooth guns and .50 cal pistols.
I pick my powder up at the Western Natls. in Az.
