I have a old CVA that I would like to redo,One thing that I was thinking about douing was blueing the brass, has anyone tryed this?

Birchwod Casey makes a product called "brass Black" which works, kinda, but don't expect it to be durable, it rubs off pretty easy.

I used the liquid, not the paste, on my t/c and it came out nice. A little steel wool first then I just rubbed it on until I got what I wanted. Dulled the brass up and gave it kind of a case coloring look.

Save your dirtiest cleaning patches in a jar with some ammonia. Just enough to keep moist/wet.
Clean the brass really good to remove oils, waxes, and any polish you may have in it.
rub the brass down with them saved dirty patches and the brass will tarnish pretty quick. To keep it that way, whenever you clean, wipe with the new dirty patches (or not). I've had brass come out brown, blue, black and sometimes a blood red (?) depending on the brass and amount (frquency) used.
And it's free!
