When is the best time to day to call Mr Hoyt?? I have been calling several times a day for a three days without success. I got a busy signal once. Now his answering machine is on with only a message to call back.

I just sent him a Smith’s patent breech-loading carbine barrel for a reline yesterday in fact. Great guy that’s done amazing work for me in the past. Will watch this interview for sure.

I think he avoids the techno communication methods because it could take over his time. Just someone to answer phone,email and mail would probably be a big help. In any case, he knows what he is doing.

I had been wondering what he looked like and how old. You imagine a guy with that much knowledge would have to be getting close to 200 or so.

I caught him on the phone about four months ago. At that time he had a six month or greater backlog. I’ve had two different weapons done by him, I Smith Carbine, in a Mississippi rifle. Both shoot excellently.

Mr. Hubbs, what bore diameter did you ask him to use on your Smith? I’ve got one of your excellent molds and they are casting them right at .518”. Thanks!

This spring I got him on first call @1pm. Made arrangements for a meeting later in the week. Took an old barrel over to be rebored. He had someone (niece?) Working in the shop. Enjoyed meeting him.

I had him do it in .515. I size my bullets to .516. The carbine had been used for many years as a reenactment gun and the bore was not in the best shape.
