Thinking about sending a barrel to Bobby to get it relined or rebored. I understand he is a one man shop so ,Can anyone tell me what the average turn around time is?
Thanks

He built a complete precussion 54 barrel for me and it took less than 8 weeks. Keep calling till you get an answer!!

My experience was about 4 weeks with shipping time both ways included. Actually surprised me how quickly it was done.
Do yourself a favor,, just trust,, and send it.

Varies obviously w back log. Current is about 4 weeks per conversation last week w Bobby.

what necchi said!

you will save time if you just cut to the chase and send him the barrel.

I know of nobody who does better work, and his prices are much more than fair.

My last job about a month ago had about a week turnaround.

Last year I had a TC barrel done by him and sent him the money he quoted for the work. When I got the barrel back I noticed on the shipping box that he hadn't charged me enough for shipping.

Always one to do the right thing, I put $5 in an envelop to cover the extra shipping charge and sent it to him.

When I called him about the latest barrel he remembered my $5. Perhaps I got special treatment for being honest.

What is involved in just sending Him a Barrel without talking to Him? Is there a certain cost and how do you pay ?? Is the sights to be removed before sending?? Sorry for all the questions !!!!

Lead,
I repeat... call Mr Hoyt. All this is speculation until you talk to the source.

I just sent him the barrel after he told me it is ok and he is willing to work on it. He sent me the new barrel without paying for it and sent me a paper invoice. I sent him back USPS money order.

Don't delay when needing work done by someone like Hoyt.

He does excellent work, very good to deal with, and he is one of those guys that when he is gone one of these days, there will be no one to replace him.
Kinda' like good ole Tip Curtis.

Talked to Mr.Hoyt today and he said to figure 6-8 weeks.

I sent a recalled Lyman barrel back to the factory and they are saying up to 4 months or longer. Just wished that Lyman was as fast as Mr Hoyt.

The more he has to do, the more it costs. Send the barrel with exactly what you want and any extra he needs to do. He will send you a bill when it's done.

Ya know(?) That's probably true.
I had him turn a 1" T/C barrel into a 62 smoothy.
But I removed the under-rib, front and rear sights before I sent it to him, I just figured he'd need that stuff off to chuck the barrel in a lathe and wanted to make it easy for him.

I do remember sending it in January, I don't think he really has an off season as he's always busy. but it has to peak in the early spring as everyone is getting geared up for summer.

Just got out and shot my Hoyt barrel again yesterday. Its a 54 cal with 1:60 twist. Shooting 70 grains of Goex FFFG, pillow ticking lubed with 7:1 oil ratio cut at the muzzle wiped between shots with 50\50 alcohol and murphy's soap mixture.

I will say the barrel did need a bit of breaking in so you know what to expect before it started grouping like this. I feel the barrel is capable of even tighter groups and I will tweak the load further.
