Why is it that the Bore Butter out opf the tube is "thinner" than the Bore Butter used to grease the groves in a TC maxiball? Dumped a box of Maxiballs and the lube fell out of the groves. relubed but what a mess  would crisco work better, seems "stiffer"

TIA

Good question, ooze some out if the tube and let it set in the open air for a few days and see if it feels the same as the maxi-ball bore butter. I am thinking it will set up a bit outside the air tight tube.

Wondering that my self---seems to have more oil in it that would make it thinner and easier to come out of the tube. Found a tube I had forgotten about for a few years and it had already separated---oil came out when it was squeezed. Made a mess.Wonder if it would last longer in the fridge :hmm:

The stuff that comes in the little bucket is a lot better for maxi's but it seems to put the wax film on the bore. I have wondered if this is why some people don't like Bore Butter and have called it "Chap-Stik"?

Take just a little bee's wax(too much and it will crack) and melt it into the BB. This makes it a lot stiffer and it works great on maxi's and BPCR boolits. I use a little plastic "Speer" bullet box, put in some BB and a little chunk of Bee's wax....pop the box in the microwave and melt it down....Then just stand the maxi's on end in the lube and let it solidify. Then just cut the maxi's out with a piece of 5/8inch pipe or 50BMG shell.

I have had NO problems with BB 'waxxing" my gun but I have always used the tube stuff and think it is the ONLY way to go.

Freedom,
I use about the same thing. I melt some Bore Butter in a muffin pan along with a little bit of Lee's Bees wax mix stick. With tweezers, I dip my REAL bullets in the mixture then set them out on wax paper. Got the idea here on the forum. Works good for me  .

I've noticed that too. The stuff in the tube is great for patches but not conicals. I assume they make the conical lube way thicker to stay in the grooves. I have also noticed that maxi-balls with the grooves totally full of lube are not as accurate than if they have just a small amount of lube. More accurate yet are maxis lubed with Lee Liquid Alox.

We have Bore Butter, I wonder it they will ever come out with Bore Margarine? :hmm:

I have some Bore Butter that's been on patch material for 2 years now exposed to the air and it's still moist.

Don: Don't be surprised if those 2 year old patches create some very poor groups.

Cotton tends to break down when it is subjected to oils for long periods of time and the weakened cotton can easily rip or blow thru when the gun fires.
