Probably not the best idea. Muzzle protectors need to have the barrel pointed up to stay in place. Any vibrations will cause movement of metal to metal which causes ware, even brass againts steel can cause the steel to ware. Muzzle loading barrels are not hard, made from 12L14 which is the easiest steel to machine. The stainless ram rod is much harder than the barrel and if it is allowed to rattle againts the lands it would be like taking a small hammer and working the lands over.
