Bore Light

Forgive me for what is probably a stupid question that has probably been asked before. How do you check the bore on a ML with a bore light? I use them regularly on guns where I can open the action, but have no idea on checking out a muzzleloader.

I have seen in archery stores arrow nocks that have a light built in them. They should fit down any bore size.

In a pinch you can drop a Nickle plated brass empty shell casing down and the flashlight will reflect, or put foil around a piece of brass.

Auto Zone sells a good little lite. It has a loop for a string. I use the string to lower the light slowly to examine the length of the bore.

I bought a six pack of illuminated arrow nocks on amazon for like $10. One has lasted for at least the last year and they will drop down the barrel of a 32.

At the local big box store in the fishing section you'll find the bobber light mentioned earlier, a few bucks for a package of 2 or more, drop them down and you'll be surprized at how it shines up the bore, I'll take one along anytime I'll be getting a long gun.

A simple light down the barrel doesn't give any details, just light in the tunnel. You will be shocked at what the little camera shows. Fits 22cal and up. A shiny bore doesn't impress after you've looked at the picture from the camera.

Cheap Chinese eBay borescope. Inside my Enfield looks like this

good enough to see if it’s clean. The lense Is about two inches from the bottom. Taken with my Iphone, available with most usb connectors.

I’ve used the lighted arrow nock with good results. However, I’ve recently acquired the Teslong bore scope. It’s the best $50 I’ve ever spent.

It works as advertised. So you might think your bore is clean till you look at it with a bore scope.

I carry in my range box a 45 CAL. CHROME PLATED / NICKEL PLATED, empty case ans put it in the barrel primer end facing up and shine a flashlight down the barrel and it will rely illuminate your barrel. try it.

I'm not home now and cannot measure everything but they say the flexible cable is 36 inches.

That’s not the part that goes down the barrel. I don’t know how long that is but I was able to get it all the way down the Pedersoli frontier rifle with a 39 inch barrel.
