After spending an hour or so searching the www for sources with no luck, I thought I would ask the kind folks here.
Where do you find your Boxwood or Beech wood for making knife handles? The only source I could find was in India and required the minimum purchase of 100 pieces. :shocked2:
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Ed

Our local hardwood dealer (Kiem Lumber ) has beech in stock and they will ship anywhere in us. I don't know if they have a web site since I never looked on line.I could buy you what you want and ship it for you if you cann't find what you need elsewhere. :idunno: :idunno: Just put keim lumber into your search Engine they have a site! :idunno:

I do a fair amount of woodworking on small items. Genuine Boxwood is a very rare comoditiy these days. The best comes from the mountains in France, harvested in the winter. I suspect the stuff that is being offered as 'boxwood' is something else. I had a chance to buy some at close-out prices once. Passed because of price. Big misteak. :(
Enneyhow, try Jantz http://www.knifemaking.com/Default.asp for your knife slabs. If anyone has it, they will and it will be the real stuff. As an alternative, try their imitation/faux/alternative ivory. Very hard to work but great ivory-like appearance.

That was my experience as well- real boxwood is impossible to find, expensive, and France is one of the few sources. I am told the stuff grows very slowly.
What type of knife are you making? Rosewood was often used in Sheffield for a lot of knives.
I usually get my wood at a local Woodcrafters.

Did a Quick search- Wood Crafter Stores in Centennial, Co Spg, Loveland. I used to live in Denver.

Boy, what a great group, and responses!!! Thanks, Wick, Crockett, LHunter, Rifleman, Ohio and Onepaw.
If I can't find something with all these options, I guess I'm really dense.
Thanks, again guys.

Or,

instead of using imitation on your hard work you could use the real deal, still available at several sources.

or here

Of course if you do use real pre-ban Ivory you wont be able to peddal your wares on e-bay.
