Okay guys, newbie here. I read all the time, "accept no substitute", "use the real thing"...etc. Well I'd love to, BUT here in the peoples republic of Upstate NY all the gun dealers I know don't have it. I guess there are special regs to store the stuff so they just don't bother anymore. Does anyone know where to buy Goex in Upstate NY? Northern PA? Or do you guys just buy it mail order and pay the extra hazmat charges? I'm wanting to use real BP, can anyone hook me up to a source? Thanks. Ron.

Dixon's Gun Shop in PA. They have a web-site I do believe.

Try this

Buy it online and save yourself the retail markup. Even if you buy it at a local store you still pay the Hazmat and shipping, it's rolled into the retail price.

I buy from here::

And it's cheaper than buying from the stores in my area, in NY.....

I bought my last ten pound order from Powder Inc.
Before that I used Back Creek Gunshop in Virginia (Sorry, don't have the link available).

Powder, Inc's a good source, but I think their prices are higher than Graf's. Plain Goex is $83.90 for 5 lbs including hazmat fee, shipping and insurance: http://www.grafs.com/powders/3522

At Powder, Inc, plain Goex is $92 for 5 lbs with the hazmat fee included: http://www.powderinc.com/cgi-...ge&thispage=order.htm&ORDER_ID=134211418

Went to shoot a 2 weeks ago and one of the fellows was shooting their brand 3f in a .45 He said it seems to shoot as well as the goex. I didn't see him having any problems in loading or firing. It was in a flinter. His reason for using it account of not being able to find goex. Told him about powder inc. They were easy to deal with.

Depends on where in NY you are from. Check the GOEX web page there is a place just outside Scranton where you can buy 25 lb. J&S pyrotechnics or something like that, they are listed as a master Goex distributor and very nice to deal with.

I looked on the GOEX site for places in NY. I called a gun/ammo store in Rochester and they too are not selling real BP anymore. They too said it's the storage regs. So before I drive to PA or Ohio and spend all kinds of money in gas, it looks like I will be ordering from Powder Inc or Grafs. Maybe a friend would take 1/2 the order. Thank you all for helping me out. Ron.

Apparently the air in sporting goods store these days is so foul that it dulls the brain. I can't believe that there isn't some kind of shooting club, or range, or both within a short drive of any store that caters to shooting sports.

If there is such a club or range near by, what is wrong with the store owner arranging to build and store his powder at the range in a bunker or building that meets the storage regulations? He can arrange either to pick up the powder daily, or weekly, and deliver it to his customers in his parking lot out of his car, or have someone at the club deliver it daily or weekly for his customers.

Such an arrangement will meet all the concerns of Homeland Security, will cement ties between the gunshop and the gun club or range users, will provide a source of powder for both members, and new shooters who might be attracted to the range availability, as well as sending new customers to the gunstore not only to buy black powder, but also to buy everything else gun related. As to the cost of building the bunker, most gun club members would be happy to provide the labor to build it if it means the difference between having a local source of powder, or not.

These regulations are anti-gun, anti-hunting, and have little to do with national security. They are bad laws. Until they are repealed or change, however, we have to suffer them. IF WE DON'T WORK TOGETHER, we will lose! As our Founding Fathers proclaimed, "Either Hang together, or surely you will Hang separately! "

If the owner of the gunshop you frequent is not smart enough to figure out what to do, TELL HIM. Then talk to your gun club, or range owners, to work this out with him. Its not unusual for many ranges to have a powder magazine, because of the amount of powder they sell and use monthly. Why not help out the gunshop in town by "renting " him space in a magazine? Or build one for both parties to use? The " rent " can be allowing members to order powder at a discount from the gunshop owner. No, he doesn't make his usual profit, but he gets a bunch of customers( for other supplies) , and free sales reps telling other shooters where to find a great gunshop, no?

In upstate NY yes I have a store for you well south-western maybee but from the north you have to pass them by to get to Pennsylvania.

Fur Fin and Feather in Liberty New York on route 17 not far from Roscoe NY as a matter of fact. OK it is really in Livingston I always get these towns confused.

Phone number is 845 439 4476

His prices are a bit high cause he and the wife are rowing against the tide but in a pinch he has it all.

Anyway they refuse to stop stocking the powder at least up till now. Nice people nice shop

Found the place by accident was asking distributors to give me the name of some of their stores and they refuse to hook my up with anyone. That got me going.

Why not get some buddies together and order a case? You can mix brands and granulations, and shipping and HazMat only add about $1.50/pound on a case of 25. The least expensive place I found, after searching several sites, was Clarksville Gun and Rod. Nice folks to deal with. I think they have an ad in Muzzle Blasts or Muzzleloader. Emery
