brand new to bp shooting! greetings from texas!

Hi everyone! ive made up my mind to get into bp shooting, and just waiting on my christmas paycheck to kick in so i can buy that traditions DIY Kentucky rifle in .50! there's some old timers out by where i live that shoot black powder, but they're pretty elusive. so i'm excited to be here! :hatsoff:

Welcome :hatsoff: I think you'll find the Traditions rifle a good starter. You may be getting into some deep trouble here. When the black powder bug bites you can kiss your paycheck goodbye for a while.

This is really a very good place to be. There is a ton of information and some great people here too.

hey guys sorry, 12 hour shifts. anyways im a little north of san antonio about an hour north. little place called canyon lake. and thanks! always wanted to try bp shooting, and figured what better way to get comfortable with one than by actually piecing one together! currently about to haul ass to cabelas for it. and kick myself in the ass for it later

thanks everyone! I got a lot to learn, just need to find somewhere where I can get all the tools to finish up this rifle at. everything seems simple enough, as far as to how it works. :grin: glad to be here! I don't suppose we have a FAQ section do we? got some Q's about the difference between browning a barrel and bluing one. as soon as I saw the word rust, I was put off by it.

Welcome from another new member just down the road. I'm sure "thatoneguy" screen name must have some significance but it brings about a story I have to tell. This is a story about Grandpa's. To some it is a blessing to become a Grandpa, but obviously others dread the very thought of becoming one. So much so that when my stepson and wife had their first child, her dad threw a fit about being called Grandpa. Mr. Macho insisted that he not ever be called Grandpa. Anything... like maybe first name (just not kosher), possibly pawpaw (but reluctant), he didn't know what he wanted his grandchild to call him. So out of respect for his egotistic selfishness the family would just point and say "that guy". Guess what? For his grandchildren (now 2 of them) his name is "That Guy". I think the name if fitting!

Blueing and Browning are both forms of controlled rust. A properly browned barrel is beautiful and easily maintained. A blued barrel can transform into a browned barrel over years of use and cleaning.
