I did some searching and didn't come up with what I was looking for. If someone has a link please post it! I'm in the process of working on a kibler smr. I bought the laurl mountian fordge browing solution but I'm not sold that I want to brown it. I saw on one of kiblers videos that he used brass black and I like the way it turned out. I'm sure guys here have tried it can anyone point me in the direction of how this is done exactly, which product to use and is this a good decision or should I stick with browning it? Thanks in advance.

Well then you need to figure out what finish you do want.
Brass Black is phosphoric acid and copper sulfate, it will "react' with iron and make a dark color,,
What "Do" you want? it's your rifle build,,

Interesting, did Jim Kibler use the brass black on the barrel as well? Looked/searched for the video and couldn't find it. Where and under what heading is the video found/listed as?

He didn't talk at all. Wish he would have explaining this and that. Have to check his other vid's as I see there is quite a few of them. It appeared to me he was using the same concoction on the barrel as the furniture. At least a like container and appeared to have the same results when applied. Thanks for posting.

Jim uses brass black on all steel parts including the barrel in his video. I have used it and I love the result.

He doesn't sell it but you can order it from Historic House Parts.

Do I need to degrease the barrel before I apply the brass darkening solution? I just got done sanding it to 400. I didn't touch it with my hands while rotating it in the vise.

I would not go to 400 grit before browning/blueing/blackening. I have had better luck with surface treatments and less than 220 grit. I don't sand anymore actually. Files, maybe a light going over with emery cloth, and then various grades of steel wool.

I did it last night and was not happy with the results I will be giving it another go tonight. I rubbed it back to far some how. If I don't like the results I might try navel jelly
