Just wondering if there is any special type of care I should be doing for my brass on gun and accessories. For example, with no special care, my brass powder measure has darkened up so that I can't read the numbers well.

Thanks for any help!

Dan

Im one of those guys that like the dull brass so I do nothing to mine. Over time that patina looks good to me but some like theirs shiny so if you do then get yourself some brasso at wally world an give er a shine

Wipe some Brasso on the scale face of the powder measure's plunger. You want just enough to put a shine on the face and leave the numbers dark. Or you can shine the measure's plunger including the numbers. Then use a some latex enamel to paint the face with the numbers and wipe the face paint off leaving black paint in the numbers for easier reading.

If you want your brass to stay "showroom bright" I can suggest coating the polished bright, de-greased brass with Plasti-Kote Clear Engine enamel. I have done this a couple of times for customers who wanted the brass to remain bright. One rifle I see frequently was done close to 20 years ago and it's still bright. The coating is most easily applied to parts off the gun where they can be sprayed. The coating is invisible--just don't let it sag or run.

I like Flitz for shining up brass. But I normally let it "age" so long as there aren't green, crusty blotches.

Once it gets a little tone I find wiping it with boiled linseed oil and buffing stabilizes it. Good for the stock, too.
