Hey, I just got a Cabela's Hawkins rifle and I was wondering how to keep the brass from going dull once I shine it up. Also, if anyone has pictures of their guns that would be great too. I'm not sure what color I want to stain the wood yet and it might help me decide if I can see other finished guns.

I'm actually getting a bottle of Birchwood Casey brass black because I'm getting tired of trying to keep my brass shiny

That and I think it will make me more stealthy :shocked2:

some people clear coat it with lacquer or wax it to give it a barrier from the air so it wont oxidize

Apply a coat of paste wax.
An even better wax to use is something like Maguiar's Gold Class auto wax.
This stuff is made for modern clear coat finishes so it contains no abrasives and it is excellent for waxing cars with too!

Really dazzle them with a electroplate of a microinch of gold, will always look good them.

Let it tarnish and don't worry about it. There aren't too many of us that bother polishing the brass after the build is complete.
