Brass Tack Job

Hey I did this to my Crockett squirrel rifle today:

Found this old box of German-made brass tacks in my junk drawer and figured what the heck. I know some don’t care for it but it’s an inexpensive gun and I actually quite like the results considering I just eyeballed it. Gives it a sort of old west Native American vibe.

Did you have any trouble hammering the tacks directly into the wood or did you partially drill "pilot holes"?

I didn’t, the shanks were pretty thin. They went in snuggly with no issues.
