Is brass ever used as wedding bands on barrels? I know gold and silver are. But would brass be malleable enough when annealed?

Absolutely...... Just heat it read & quench it in water & a band the width you need for a barrel band will work into the inlet. Cut the groove in the barrel & get it nice & even & then undercut the inside bottom edges so you have something to flare into & lay it in there & peen it in. Keep in mind brass does work harden, so have your piece so it will Barely fit into the inlet.

I do suggest you get a old piece of barrel, steel, key stock or something & play with it a while & get the details down to where it is perfected..... then go for the barrel.

Yep,

Huge amount of work, I will never do it again.

For the amount of labor involved its a waste to work that hard for cheap materials.

Its good for practice.

You can inlay spring steel if you know how, but it's a hemroid. Brass is 3 times harder to inlay than gold, silver or copper. Birddog has it right. I often do iron inlays for repairs in lock plates and etc.

Thans for the information. I will have to practice and see how it works out before I try it on my barrel.
