Up until now I've been shooting a Hawken side-hammer. I've just purchased a Rolling Block muzzleloader from D.Pederzoli. After going through several catalogues I've noticed that there are all kinds of breech plugs offered. Is there some sort of problem with breech plugs that requires the replacement of them in so many in-line guns?

Generally breech plugs in sidehammer guns are not removeable.
Inlines :shake: have removeable breech plugs which makes them "easier to clean".
I have to disagree. I was once a sinner and by my experience it is much easier to clean a sidelock than an inline.

I too was once a sinner and I didn't clean my inline. I removed the breechplug and pushed the load out the back. :winking:

"easier to clean" :bull:
A friend of mine bought a used in-line and had no idea how to put it back together. He called me and it took me the better part of an hour just to figure it out. I could have cleaned one of mine and the boy's side lock in that amount of time. :nono:

Boy! I sure hopes we aint tawking about in-mmmphhhphh...gasp. Dog gone it Claude! You know Ah kant talk whan ye pokes at durty ole rag innter ma mouth. mutter. mutter...He seems ta thin he onns tha place.

Let's not turn this into a inline vs. sidelock debate.
I wasn't trying to stir anything up. I just stated my opinion.
I don't think the original question was even answered.

I don't think there is a problem with them unless they get shot out quickly due to the use of primers for ignition.

Sorry, I used the " I " word.
To answer the question, I would say they need replaced from either stripping one out, dropping and losing one, or getting aggrevated at it trying to put it back in and throwing it. :cursing: :rotf:
The nipple is in the breechplug on *%#&% " I " word. Change the nipple, change the breechplug. Different threads.

Slippery slope here where things have a tendency to head down hill, such should referred to those who care, as here.
