Hello all. I am in the market for a Revolutionary War period, British pattern, hatchet or tomahawk. Ideally I would like to find a piece that is stamped with period markings and a broad arrow. It would not be used for throwing, but it may be used for chopping brush. If possible I would like to spend around $50 or less.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where such an item could be found? How about a British style trade knife?

Revolutionary War period blades are not my area of expertise so any information and/or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Joe De La Ronde can probably help you out,but it will be slightly more than $50 bucks! Welcome to the forum Zimm!

Sorry for my ignorance, but who is Joe De La Ronde?

Thank you both for the quick replies.

Probably you are going to have to corner a blacksmith and wave a small handful of 20 dollar bills at him to get what you want. Have a picture of the item that you want so he will know exactly what you are looking for. After you have the cutlery then you can try and find someone to engrave the touchmarks on the knife or axe. I don't know that anyone is specifically making an "English Army" axe or knife outside of the bayonet that fits a Bess.

Track sells the British issue hatchet. No markings, but you could get that done custom.

You could check out the web site Ragnars ragweed forge. Whilst he has mostly scandanavian blade wear, he also has trade knife blades. Nice bloke to deal with.

This is one of his blades I added a laminated handle too.

DeLa Ronde is a well know Blacksmith in this group and he makes very nice blades, tomahawks, and cooking gear. Look him up with a search in links.
