Hi, I'm a new Flint Lock Owner, last night I was cleaning the barrel and it slid down and landed hard on the floor, cracking the curly maple stock at the end of the barrel. When I unpinned the barrel and removed it to repair the stock, I noticed that the barrel staple was broken where the nail goes thru to hold the gun together,,, can anyone tell me how to repair this problem.. I have the broken pieces. It broke at the barrel.

Boy, it would sure help to see some pics if you can manage it.

Really sorry about the accident, and I know your pain. I bet there are folks here who can get you back into shooting shape in a hurry, and likely with little or no sign the break ever happened.

Pictures of the broken stock and the broken staple would be nice.

I hope the crack is not too severe. Whatever the case, the repair will always show. Who made the rifle? Do you know if the staple was peened in or soldered?

Drill it out carefully & put a new staple in it & stake it in.

I take it the rifle doesn't have a nosecap ? Now would be a good time to put one on.

Thank you for your quick response, I will take some photo's of the gun and put it on this weekend. The gun was built by a local builder back in the late 1980's I understand. It had been stored in a gun cabinet for the last 15 years. The barrel was badly rusted, the previous owner hadn't cleaned it since they purchased it, so no one cleaned it after they shot it last...Been having problems with a week sear spring, I found out the lock is a early Ketland style...I have a replacement spring order from Tracks..
