I see a lot of guys talking about the Pedersol Bess, and other imports. That model sells for $800 - $900 new. The Track kit sells for about the same money, plus you have to assemble the lock. Are Track's components that much better? Anyone build it?

Looked at that one long and hard for awhile. The lock is what scared me off. All rough castings. Means you need to file, drill, polish, harden, time, etc. Not my "cup-o-tea" for the price. (read; I knew I'd screw it up beyond recognition  )
Settled on the Petrosoli - used. :applause:

I still like the TOW kit over anything readily available. Does anyone know of a builder who would build the lock for me?

I have built locks for myself but that's about the only time I can justify the effort. it's a lot of hours and chances for problems. If a spring snaps, might be hard to get a replacement. I only do it whenever there are no stock locks that are suitable. I'm assembling an early round faced Dutch flintlock from the Rifle Shoppe now for a Hudson Valley fowler project.

The castings vary a good deal depending on the original lock they used for patterns. Some of them are smoother than others. This Dutch lock is a beauty.

O>K> I'd like to let you all in on a little secret have any one really looked at the rifle shop and compare with the track of the wolf, track sells the rifle shops goods the catalog that tracks sells as an advanced gun buildrs catalog is the rifle shops catalog all are good and well built by all means order rifle shops catalog and check them out lots of lovely thigs to drool over and lots and lots of lock and brass castings to work with. bb75
