I have the book "The Brown Bess" by Erik Goldstein and Stuart Mowbray. According to the book this Brown Bess is the 1793 Pattern or India Pattern Type 1. They say the markings on the tang of the butt tang signify the Regiment. In this Case I think the N stands for Regiment ??? Company C 46th musket. Can anyone tell me if I am correct? Or, what regiment would be identified by the letter N? Or where I research for the Regiment?

Hi,
I believe the L-H and number is an Irish registration number stamped on the gun during the 1840s and much later than the date the musket was issued. The L-H stands for county Louth. So the gun was used by some regiment, possibly volunteer regiment, stationed in Ireland.
