Getting ready to start finishing lock on longrifle, Should I sand lock parts smoothe or finish as is. Lock is chambers large siler and has a bead or sandblast finish from the factory.I will be using laurl mountain browing solution.
Gun is TOTW isaic haines.

I had to clean up my Siler lock a bit, so I filed the grey coating off then smoothed it down to 220 grit. Afterwards, i used LMF on it (2 total coats, both went overnight) to give a nice even brown. Then, I neutralized in cold concentrated baking soda/water, dried, and applied a couple coats of stock oil. Has a nice finish on the lock now. I don't know if theis was the best method, but it worked for me.

We always make sure there are no casting lines left and then brown as is.
