Today I finished fitting the Bucks County side opening patchbox...What a slog!

It is far from perfect, but it is as good as I can get it. I promise you this; this is both the first , and the last, side opening patchbox I'll ever do.

My hat is off to Fred and the other builders who do these all the time. Fred has graciously given me several pointers, but I'm too inept to do them justice, but I sure do appreciate it.

Next I have to do the push button lid catch and release...never did one of those before, and I am sweating it BIG TIME!!

You'll get it whipped Mr. B. I can't wait to read the article, when you get-R-Done.

Hopefully, you're going to switch those plated Phillips Head screws for something more pc. Also, are you going to do the typical Bucks County release? It is about as simple as they come.

Nice duelist!!!

Did you do a video of the patchbox installation? And if so did you edit the language??

I know it's too late for you but for those following this build, please allow the "barrel" of the patchbox lid hinge to extend all the way through the buttplate. I think I see a notch in the buttplate that should be filled with the barrel. Not nitpicking, just for future info.

I hope this shows what I mean.

I appreciate it.

Fred Lehto also told me this...the day after I did it the wrong way...which is the story of my life. LOL

Looking at the Bucks rifles in RCA #1, it looked like the knuckle of the hinge went all the way over the butt plate, but there were no views of the back of the butt plate so I could be sure.

I'd say I'll know better next time, but I think from now on I see only top opening patchboxes in my future... LOL
