Well, I got tired of reading the same old worn out magazines and Buckskinner wasn't here yet so....I went to the Muzzle Blasts website and ordered all the 2004 issues for $18. I for one am glad we have Buckskinner! I have a guilty feeling if I don't read a magazine cover to cover, I feel like I wasted my money. Have you ever tried to read MB cover to cover? Yawn.
I quit reading it 15 years ago because I didn't care about what bigshot won what match in Iniana or whose 7 year old neice shot a 40 pt. buck with an inline at 600 yds. And above all don't care for all the rules and regulations surrounding their "sanctioned" shoots.
Thank goodness there are publications like Buckskinner to keep us all sane. And thank goodness it will be here soon.

Wow, did miss somthing? :: I look forward to and read cover to cover Muzzle Blasts every month. Sure there is a fair amount of association business in it and of course there are the shoots listed but there is also a huge amount of info for the every type of muzzleloading. I love the trek storys, the how too's and the profiles of historic guns. To be fair I haven't received my 1st issue of Buckskinner yet but for an association magazine I think Muzzle Blast is first rate! BTW, I would hope that everyone that shares in the love of this sport protects it by supporting both the NRA and the NMLRA! :m2c:

Sane? Who's Sane? I'm going insane waiting for my next issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 :youcrazy: :says: :haha:  :youcrazy:

I know, I know, I've been preaching paitence. Doesn't mean I'm not as anxious as the next feller!

Just :m2c:

Well, I don't get the Buckskinner Magazine and I have no anticipation stress what's so ever... :D

Perhaps I should look into this, I don't want to be left out... :hmm:

Okay, okay, John Curry's stuff is pretty good, very good. But...just my own opinion....I don't get into modern ML's or modern hunting stories or pictures or extremely ornate original flintlocks that nobody really used because they couldn't afford them. (forget I said that, I don't want to start another fancy gun/barn gun debate) So after all that whats left? Not much. Muzzleloader is okay as is Buckskinner.
Again my own opinion.

Can't say about Buckskinner because even though it's been promised for several months I have yet to see one. My Muzzle Blasts comes right on time every month and my Muzzleloader is also right on time every 2 months and I read both cover to cover.

I did the same thing. I didn't plan on shooting at Friendship so the magazine was a big part of my membership. When I got to where I didn't like that... well what was I a member for? :m2c:

I do enjoy Buckskinner and will read it cover to cover when it arrives.

I'd like to be enjoying Buckskinner, but have yet to see one.

I'm having some doubts here.

:hmm:

I enjoy Muzzle Blasts and Blackpowder Hunting. Typically I'll bypass the stories featuring inlines. But there's still plenty of good stuff.

I agree, I think Muzzle Blasts is great. I subscribe to Muzzle Loader as well. I like them both but Muzzle Loader is geared more to re-enactment and history while Muzzle Blasts covers a wider range of material. I would never sell Muzzle Blasts short. I keep all the old articles, lots of good stuff on building guns, etc.

I get and enjoy all three -- MuzzleBlasts, MuzzleLoader and BuckSkinner. Although I am still waiting on the first edition of the latter that I was promised.

I support all three partly because the content is enjoyable and partly because I support the sport.

I let my NMLRA membership expire a couple of times because Friendship is too far from Oregon and the editorial mixture in the magazine left me cold.
I used to subscribe to Blackpowder Hunting, too, thinking I could always count on an article or two by Ross Seyfried to get my by all those awful Jim Shockey scoped inline stories. But when Ross quit writing for the magazine, I let it go, too.
I have been thinking about Buckskinner, On the Trail or Muzzleloader, but what's this about Buckskinner not showing up?

Buckskinner is "STILL" in it's infancy stage (less than a year old), so there are still bugs to work out, as with any new adventure...

I get all 3 of the magazines you mentioned, On the Trail, Muzzleloader and Buckskinner. You can not go wrong with any of these fine publication. I will never let them run out as long as I can afford them, 3 thumbs up. :front: :front: :front:

On The Trail has been taking up to a month, from the time it is mailed, to reach subscribers. Sometimes these small publishers are virtually ignored by the postal service.

OTT posts their mailing date on the computer and people reply as their magazines arrive.

Even when a mag comes off the press in a timely fasion it insures nothing.

It seems there is a quota system on the junk mail the postal service is forced to meet and other things get pushed aside.

:front:

I get a half dozen mags each month and I can find some kind of gripe with each of them. Occasionally I hit an article that really intreges me. That is why I subscribe.

Each mag trys to cover a broad spectrum, they have too to draw a readership. If they do not they become stagnant, repeating the same articles over and over.

I know it is time to drop a mag when I can predict the contents, with 80% certainty, before it arrives.

It takes on the nature of a computer forum where none of the new people use the search feature to answer the newbie questions and you see the same questions posted each week, over and over and over!

Ever seen that happen?

The old guys get bored and leave (quit subscribing) and the new guys think they have discovered a gold mine! In two weeks they are "instant experts" and posting answers to the questions they were asking only a week ago! A month latter something shiney distracts them and they post no more.

I have noted that this is happening with Muzzle Blast also. The quality and accuracy of their articles is falling, along with their editing standards.

Quite true. Time will tell if Buckskinner will be a viable magazine. Supposedly there was a problem with their printing outfit and the entire April/May issue had to be re-ran. (according to their website).

Well, maybe we will get the April/May and June/July issues together. By the way, haven't seen any posts by Stumblibuffler lately. Maybe he is busy with the Mag.?

Can you describe what the magazine "On The Trail" is like?

By comparison, I take Muzzleloader, Blackpowder Magazine, and Buckskinner (used to take Muzzleblasts)

On the Trail is a magazine for those who like to "trek" or are in to personas. They do a lot of articles on trips into the woods, clothes, journals, and history. Muzzleloader is your typical BP magazine. Helpful hints, shooting, and a great article each month my Mark Baker. His articles alone make it worth the money. I like Muzzleloader the best out of all the magazines I get. That's until I get my Buckskinner, I may like it better.

Yeap that's the long and the short of it. I hear from Stumblin' (Chris, the editor) every few days. He is working on getting the June/July issue all laid out right now and has been tied up with that. From what I understand he is still dealing with the printer but hopefully it will be taken care of soon. I can hardly wait for the delayed issue (It has my first writting for Buckskinner in it). It really is a great mag and fills a niche that I believe has been wanting for a while now. I'm sure all will work out. Perhaps Stumblin Buffler will chime in on it.
