I'm glad you posted the link otherwise I probably wouldn't have checked it out. I usually sew my own stuff if using leather. The wife sews it if its made out of cloth. But for $59 dollars I figured what the heck. Thats not a bad price for all that. Placed an order today....they said it should be here wednesday or thursday.

Hey Tipis, I got one deer hide stretched on the frame and 2 more in the freezer. Gonna try some dry scrape this time. You got any special "tid-bits" of info you learned over the years that you'd care to pass on??? I think doing them this way will work better for me, at least up until the tanning part. We'll see.......

Have good sharp scraper..and go the www.braintan.com for real good help. :peace:
Right now, I am in deep do do...both my computers are down and I am sneeking in here on a friends who does not know I am on his desk top.

"... I am sneeking in here on a friends who does not know I am on his desk top."

Tipis: Wouldn't it be a little less obvious if you just sit in his chair like most people do?

roundball,
a good option for you would be to go with deerskin leggings instead of pants. less material and you can make them yourself. a cotton or wool breechclout and a shirt of linen or cotton and you are in business. kentucky leather has some good prices and if you tell them what you are going to do with it they can help you pick out the stuff that you need. hope this helps you out some.

You wear a long shirt and wool breeches under your leggings.

As a matter of fact wool leggings were commonly worn in cool weather. I've got a friend who wear wool leggings and a long shirt then the pants you are wearing don't even show.

My cousin here is wearing a pair of faded black jeans on under gray wool leggings and a huntin shirt under a wool linen lined weskit! He stays warm in pretty cold weather it's Jan. in this pic!

i wear a pair of longjohns on under my leather leggins in the winter. i hunted all this last winter in them and never had a problem. i'm in michigan and we had some real cold weather this winter. if you layer your clothes you'll be just fine in the cold. long shirts make a lot of difference. give it a try.

Thanks...and I'll wager your temps would be colder than mine in NC...might be in the teens only a dozen times during the winter before first light...usually the 20's

the last winter camp we did in feb it was around -4 at 3:00 a.m. we found out you can survive with 1 wool blanket but it ain't comfy.

Thats why I wear cloth, its also more comfortable. My wife makes all my stuff out of period reproduction cloth she picks up at rendys.I am lucky! The sewing machine only cost $4500.A good deal everybody's happy.

I think I'll still keep looking for a place that makes 2XL-Tall fleece lined, gore-tex covered, simulated buckskins!

Sounds like what my wife has. It is a Babylock Asante and it is computerized. You put a little floppy disk in it, and it will do embroidery and you don't even touch it as it sews. It does it all by itself. Can make all kinds of embroidered stuff with it,and get more floppy cards for even more stuff. Does lettering, flowers, plants, animals, you name it.

Had no idea! Learn something new everyday. Well....once a week anyway. And don't believe my wife when she says once a year, if it was a good year for my learin'.
Best Wishes

My mother has a machine like that. Some actually cost more. I guess whatever keeps you happy.
