Anyone try Buffalo Ball-etts before? They are advertised as being able to shoot from a slow and fast twist barrel. Do you use a patch with them? Do you prelube them instead. Any information would be greatly appreciated. thanks. :hmm: :)

No patch. They come prelubed. They did pretty good out of my 1:28 twist barrel. Im going to try them in my rifle with 1:48 twist and see how they do. Still looking for other bullets that will shoot outta that rifle.

Mike,
I shot about 25 or 30 of them from my .45, 1/60
twist GM barrel. I must admit there was not much
difference between them and PRB. However, I felt
like I was cheating and went back to PRB...I just
feel more honest to my rifle.I know probably
sounds kinda crazy but that is my opinion:hmm:.

Snake eyes, I know the feeling. You gotta stay with the one that brung ya to the dance. :haha:

I tryed them in my '58 Rem., shot well but never bought anymore of 'em since I bought a Lee mold for conical slugs (shoot well also)

FWIW I've used them in my 50 cal Mowrey percussion that wears a long 36" barrel with a sllllllloooowwwwwwwww 1-in-66" twist. The Ball-Ets shot fantastic! I highly recommended them for a suitable hunting 'alternative' to a patched roundball.

I ended up using the PRB as my hunting load, out of tradition more than anything else, but if you really need the weight of the projectile behind you, going with the Ball-Ets is, to me, a super way to achieve that in slow twist rifles.

I tried them out of a TC PA Hunter rifle that shoots 5 shots though a nice ragged hole at 50 yds. with PRB and the best load I could get from the ball-etts was 6" or 7" at 50yds.

I once owned a GPR .50cal flinter and it shot Ball-etts like a modern rifle. It had the slow twist, I think it was 1:66. I shot a heavy charge of 3f and it was a good 150yd hunting gun.

I think they would be great if you ever needed the little extra power for moose or something like that. I like them.

They have done fine in my .50s. I just added another 5 grains of powder to my round ball hunting load, and they shoot almost, but not quite, as well. I'd use them on hogs or black bears, if'n I ever hunted them critters.
