1862 Colt Police with very rare 6.5" barrel length makes perfect scaled down partner
for it's big brother the 1860 Colt NMA.
This .36 cal. Colt has all matching serial numbers & remains in exceptionally nice tight condition & locks up in perfect alignment
with the bore also in excellent condition.
Serial number 31,76x indicates it was manufactured in 1865.
**Out of approximately 28,000 1862 models manufactured it's estimated 70% were converted to cartridge, leaving only 8,400 in their original state.
This 1862 Colt 6.5" version is also considered the rarest model, it's estimated only 2,200 were mfg. with this barrel length.
Unlike later edition Colts & Italian replicas, this 1st edition Colt features the original progressive twist rifling noted for superior accuracy.
The original nipples remain in nice shape, also Included is a new set of quality Treso nipples.
Online research will validate factory stampings on earlier 1862 Colts like this pistol are often struck very light & frequently lack some of the factory markings, likely due to rush t

Possibly due to trying to keep up with Civil War production ?
