Guys i picked up a huge buffler hide yesterday at an auction, very nice and soft and smells oooooh so good :haha:

I want to make some possibles bags out of them but was wondering if there are any pattern books i can go by. I have one picture of an actual buff possibles bag and it was nothing fancy and thats exactly what i want. Fancy doesnt make them more efficient, just looks better.

Any good places for awls, sinew string?

It makes a neat bag Kentucky. Can't see you going wrong using a basic pattern for your time frame.

:haha: exactly the pattern i saw of an original in a book :hatsoff:

I do plan on using the sinew string for stitching it together, I can make a lot of bags outta this hide. The straps though will cost me quite a bit more on the other hand.

Wow, you must have bought that hide at a very good price!

I did, but it has area where the hair has been rubbed down in areas. I figured what the heck, just patina from a ol mountain man dragging his buffler possibles bag through brush and sand stone. Adds character.

my thoughts exactly! keep us posted, I'd like to see how it comes out! :hatsoff:

Well, I got the first possibles BAG done, I just have to figure out something for a strap to shoulder it. Came out real cool i think. I don't like fancy so its pretty much something you'd basically make out in the mountains when you needed a possibles bag replacement.

My danged fingers are killin me.

If your going for a "field repair" type bag,you could use a length of linen fro the strap, or leather. I'm just thinking of what you might be carrying on your person at the time. just a thought!

well swampy helped both of us out! We both made some orders and they should hopefully do the trick :hatsoff: Thanks again swampy i think you and i will be pleased with the buy.
