I got a pleasant surprise from my wife today. She got a package in the mail and told me that it was for me from her. I opened it up and it was a pair of buffalo horns.
We were talking the other day and I was telling her about powder horns and how that I would like to try to make my own. So she got sneaky and ordered them for me.
I am going to start sanding and scraping on one of them tomorrow and I will try to take some pictures and document the process so that you guy's can have a look at my project.

Looking forward to your progress. Post lots of pics.

A friend gave me a pair from a buff he shot recently, and they were sawed off at the base and hung around for awhile with the cores in place.

Yeah, right.

A little "high" by the time they got to me. I chucked them in the freezer for now, and been looking for an excuse to thaw them and deal with the cores.

And you're it!!!

Now that's the kind of sneaky wife a feller needs  Sounds like something my wife would do.Put on the nose pins and let the fun begin!

Do yourself a favor, if they are raw horns, start with a rasp and take all the scaly stuff off with that, then progress down with files until your at the sanding point, will go much quicker!

I already gave her a big ol' hug and I made her pucker up also. She really surprised me with the horn's.
