I am looking for information regarding a builder by the name of Joshua Zartman. 1816- 1891 in Newark, Ohio. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Ohio Gunsmiths and Allied Tradesmen, by Donald Hutslar. A publication by the Ohio Gunsmiths Assn. Log Cabin has it for sale. Anybody have this five volumn set or know of it? Thanks

I have the five volume set of books by Don Hutslar. If you are interested in old guns, they are well worth the investment. There is an extensive article in Volume 3 of the set on Joshua Zartman. Some of the highlights on Joshua Zartman are:
Born - May 10, 1816 in Perry County Ohio.
Died - December 11, 1891 in Newark Ohio
Home in Newark - 77 N. Fifth St.
Shop in Newark - 28 W. Main St.
Joshua was active in his business up until three days before his death. He died of peritonitis and is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newark Ohio.
Maker of many high quality rifles.

Thanks for the info. This might just make a nice fathers day present. My dad would like this as well as myself.
Thanks
Randy

Not directly, however, same last name. Never met the man either. The story goes that two brothers came over from Germany and that all Z's in USA are results from these two guys. While I am very proud of my heritage, sometimes I wonder why my last name isn't Dixon, Guslar or even Chambers. Anyway, does anybody know of an Ohio fulstock kit? Thanks for all the info.
Randy

Hey Randal - Alexander Zartman came to settle in PA, in Lancaster County and built a church in Brickerville. He landed in 1728. If you are interested in genealogy I can get you a copy of the most recent family history book. - Alex Zartman
