I am getting ready to build a gun. I have to inlet it and all. Is there any sites or books you would recommend?

First off, link into the rifle building tutorial that Mike Brooks posted on this forum.

Rifle Building Tutorial

A couple of books I would get:
"The Art of Building the Pennsylvannia Longrifle" by Chuck Dixon, et al

"The Gunsmith of Grenville County" by Peter Alexander

Both excellent books on building a longrifle. What project are you going to do?

If you have never built one, I suggest you buy a "parts set" from Jim Chambers, TOW, Tip Curtis, Wayne Dunlap, etc. and not start with a blank. Do 3-4 like that & then build from a blank as this way you will not be overwhelmed & etc.

i agree with birddog- i had two under my belt before i tried making a stock from a blank and had i not had that experience, i would have been completely overwhelmed by the whole deal. in addition to the books mentioned, you might want to check out some videos. Chambers makes a good one, and there are several at a site called technicalvideorentals.com (or somesuch). Track of the Wolf also has videos for sale.

good luck with your project. soon, you will be getting all excited about sharp rocks, and people will look at you funny. forget 'em- they don't know a thing about sharp rocks.
