I bought this old box off market place for $50 as it had some black powder stuff, bullet mold, speed loaders, powder measure etc. But I really wanted the box.

I removed the hardware, sand blasted and painted matte black and used brass screws. I routed my knife making logo in the top.

I then sanding off the artwork and flaming then 3 coats of satin urethane.

In the tray I made extra dividers out of red oak and maple accessory holder with 10/32 knurled nuts.

on the inside of the lid I made a range rod holder out of leather and a leather picture frame with a picture of my deceased father and I.

in the main compartment, I made extra dividers to compartmentalize stuff like powder and cleaning stuff etc. also a leather strip to hold speed loaders, nipple wrench etc.

Lastly I made a gun holder that mounts with wing nuts to the top of the case. they are lined with leather.

also put wroght iron handles for easy transportation.

Turned out great! let me know your thoughts.

Nicely done!

I ended up repurposing a wheeled tool cart/box thing I got some 20 years ago. Works great for dragging my stuff to the shooting table. I can fit everything I could need provided I remember to load it :) LOTS of space for balls, powder, tools, target sheets, cleaning supplies and I put my big shooting rest/bag in the bottom compartment along with hearing protection/headset and more. Nearly identical to this and so practical. Just remove the smaller sections and lay them in the truck bed, reassemble at the range. Bigger wheels would be nice.

I too repurposed an old carpenter's tool box off of eBay for my gun box. I paid $45 and just had to wire brush the metal parts and spray some of my left over paint on them. Bill

I like it, as it shows some good planning, craftsmanship and follow through. I admire your ability to see the finished product before even beginning; my hat's off to you.

I like it! All my BP stuff is in a large hardshell brief case. Digging around inside for whatever I need is a real chore. You done good.

Very nice. Where did you get the wood inserts for holding your jag, puller, etc?
