Use Hoppe's 9 on a Maxi Ball? If that's the case. I should have just rubbed some Ballistol on them instead of that horrible lube that comes on them.

i make a conical lube from manteca lard (can be found in the Hispanic food section of most grocery stores) parafin wax, murphy's oil soap and a blue crayola crayon. it gets pretty warm here in the central valley and this stands up to heat pretty well. you can play with the wax content to suit your needs. good luck :thumbsup:

Thats true, i shoot a .58 TVM Leman flinter and the bore butter works great on my patches, the big lube problem is the .58cal maxi's for my T/C big boar capper

Anyone tried LEE liquid Alox to lube minne's or maxi bullets?
It looks like simple to use product that won't melt and drip off during midday heat.

As for a patch lube I have dry lubed patches with a LEXOL leather care product. It goes on wet, dries to a dry waxy finish. It just another dry patch choice among the many home made patch lubes. Now I just use Balistol, I wonder what a lexol balistol mix would do.....

you think bore butter is effective and your right, so use it. last weekend i tried cornmeal on top of my powder instead of a wad. i poured in 10 grains, squeezed the soupy bb across the muzzle and rammed the unlubbed conical home. the meal takes up any of the soup from contaminating my powder my fingers never got greasy once(or my gun) and no more punching wads. the fouling was kept at bay and i was as clean as a bp shooter could be at the end of the day. with this method you could use any of the patch lubes on this site

Go to the frugaloutdoorsman.com and Junior will tell you how to make a lube that will stand up to the heat. I use pure lard here in Texas and my last range trip was 30 shots from my Seneca 32 without any problems. The last shot went down the barrel as smooth as the first shot. If I am firing minnies, I use the Junior Lube and it stays stable even in the heat.

Yeah, that's my standard. Dip the conicals, let them dry, then dip them again. It works really well.

I'm not contending with heat (obviously), so I can't say how firm it will stay at 100+. I melt pretty good at those temps, so I'm not likely to shoot then, either. :grin:

I have been developing heavy loads for my .72-caliber rifles. Lubricant I have been using - with astonishingly good results - is SPG. This is among the most used lubricants by BPCR competitors.

Regarding my definition of "astonishingly good results," I will be detailing what I've done, with what specific results when I am further along in development.

Here's a teaser: Bore wiping or cleaning of any sort has not been needed - to maintain accuracy OR ease of loading during any shooting session.
