Hello

I contacted NEI and the closest they came was .715 and if i understood their catalog right it weighed 1200 gr!! + it was not a minie. I have sent an inquiry to dixie gunworks.

Any ideas of vere to look for a minie mould .718-720 ??

I looked at the bullet in question and it would not be difficult to alter into a minie mold. It is a nose pour design. A base pin is easy to fabricate if the Lyman style is used. The bottom bearing band and the bottom lube groove removed. With these two items removed and a cavity formed the bullet would be much lighter, probably about 40%. If it was a little loose in the bore you could always paper patch. Proportionally .002-.003 thousands windage is much tighter in a .71 caliber gun than it is in a .58 caliber one. This is one of the reasons why the .58 replaced the .69 as the US service caliber. It wasn't just economics and heavy recoil.

Ok runball i think i see what you are meaning and i accutaly took out my .69 Lyman mould and had a look at it and it does not seem that difficult. But it feels strange to buy a new mould and start cutting it up

I understand what you mean. I used to skirmish with the N-SSA and when we bought minie mould most would end up opening a bit and perhaps altering the cavity shape or depth looking for a better fit and a more stable bullet. Going this route should save you a few ducats since they want $300.00 for a new cherry if you are only going to purchase one custom mould plus they retain possession of the cherry. You only get the mould less handles.

yes $300 is on the heavy sida but i really like to get that old gun barking agin. But it might be better to just alter a standard mould
