If you have not seen a media source in PA recently, the PA Historical and Museum Commission has announced the potential closure of 6 historic sites. One of those sites is Bushy Run Battlefield, the 1763 frontier victory by COL Henry Bouquet and a mixed force of British and American troops over a large Native force during Pontiac's War. Once again, a few thick-headed politicians are willing to sacrifice our American Heritage for the savings of a few thousand dollars (this 400 acre site's budget is under $500,000) The Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society, a private non-profit group, is doing everything they can to prevent this from happening. If you want to know more or want to help, contact the BRBHS at [email protected] or go to savebushyrun.org starting next week.

A VERY CONCERNED AMERICAN CITIZEN!!

Also on the hit list are Brandywine Battlefield Park, Hope Lodge (grounds of the Whitemarsh encampment), and Washington Crossing.

Maybe we need to build some more casinos in PA. :shake:

Support of programs like this come from taxes. Many folks, including most who participate in this forum (I presume) don't want to pay taxes. So how then can we complain when budget cuts hit close to home? Should we cut back on bridge maintenance, or close a public school, or etc so Bushy Run can stay open? Or to fund wildlife management programs? Or [insert your own pet program here]? I realize this is an over-simplification, especially these days, but the connection between tax revenues and public programs is basic.

Need to fund the teachers union, so they can indoctrinate our children that the founders of our country were "evil white men" stealing Indian...so sorry "native aboriginal land"
Like applying 21 first century morals to the 18th century has any rationality.
These places are cultural historical sites..
The state OF Penn. can't be that desperate, :cursing:

Well for starters we can NOT send 900 MILLION to Hamas in the Gaza Strip, While we are at it we can not send our tax dollars to every third world cesspit anti American country around the globe, let the European union take care of Darfor, Somalia etc etc etc. Then just to finish up lets give the united nations the boot! We do not need them. If we set our priorities on this country first we may have the money to do things OUR citizens feel are important.

I don't know how you guys run things in Minnesota (judging by your choices of governors and senators, no better than us), but at all of these places mentioned, you can stroll the grounds free of charge. That is part of the problem. BTW, in PA, hunters have paid, via licenses and fees, for everything, including the gamelands we hunt on.

PS> When the day comes that they close a public school for lack of funds (read: taxes), that would rank with the 2nd Coming as far as news-worthy items go.

Ha ha! LOL

Did you know that we have more legislaters than California? Or Texas? Or even NY? (And more aides, office personnel, expense accounts, etc.)
And that our wonderful governor has suggested that state employees take 2 days off each month, sans pay? But not himself?
Or that the legislative surplus (slush funds, junkets, etc.) is now $200 million?? But they can't agree to spend a dime of it?

:eek:ff :stir: :2

Just another example of:" if we don't study our history we will repeat the mistakes!" The native Americans did not unite against the white man because they wanted the cheaper trade goods. They got diseases and chased off their land or killed. Now we send our jobs to China for cheap goods and wonder were the money went.
Politicans will never learn we cann't spend ourselves rich or borrow our way out of debt!
Where does the word politics come from? Old Greek : poly means many, tics are blood suckers!

well, being the resident curmudgeon (spelling?) i agree with Hawkeye... let's look to our own problems before we rush about and try to save the world. (the New World Order can kiss my ZXC$)... and since we're dropping the f-bomb on the UN, perhaps we could get the site declared a cultural treasure or somesuch and get the EU to cough up a bunch of Euros to preserve the world heritage. (that would be what the euro types think is important, and since the site was made important by a bunch of dead white guys who came from northern europe, i think it's only fair)

just one guy's opinion

New Hampshire has the third largest legislative body in the world, except for The US, and Great Britain,
Our legislators get paid, 200 a year.
Check out this link..
No wonder so many states are in the hole..
pay for nothing
we need a new revolution NOW :cursing:
