just finished cleaning my .40cal after about 30 r/b it was kind of nasty i have never used anything but soap and water but i bought some butchs b/p bore shine .the directions say saturate 3 patches run one up and down about 6times and let it se for 3 minuets then the second patch -up and down 5-6 times and the same with the third, then run a dry patch then anotherby the 3rd pull on the second dry patch the bore was spotless couldnt belive it worked that well i never buy anything that works like the package says it will but im sold on this my cleaning time is cit by2/3rds the time and done well im just wondering has anyone else used it and did it work for you. :v

Dang, don't ware the poor little thing out,LOL. Most I ever put thru it at a single sitting was about 10 shots, since my shooting range is out back of the house by the barn and I didn't want to get the neighbors too upset. How's it shooting for ya', are the groups pretty good, I was getting inch to inch and a half at 25 yrds for 3 shots. :v

it shoots very well ,im getting about 1"-2" consistant at ranges out to 50yds about as far as i can see any more but im d-lited. it loads smooth -e-z- fast ignition i give you credit for that ,as i know you did some fine tuneing -all-n-all- it is a shooter i love it.i think it is more accurate than i am

I use that stuff also. What got me hooked on it was after cleaning with hot soapy water I ran a patch with bore shine and was suprised at what I missed on the first cleaning.

Like I told ya' before we swapped, it wasn't much of a "looker" but it does shoot nice. I did a bit of work to the pan on the lock and installed a vent and cleaned up the lock but other then that it's pretty much just like I got it. Glad you're happy with it.

Which one did you use?

The thread-header says Butch's Bore Shine.
But inside your 1st post, it says "Butch's Blackpowder Bore Shine".

They are two different solvents. The regular Butch's controls plastic, copper & lead. The blackpowder Butch's is the weaker of the two.

since this deals mostly with blackpowder ,i used the one for black powder i never thought about being p.c.
i see where it could be confusing.but since the first post says for my .40cal i thought it would be ez to figure out i was useing the blackpowder formula :v

I have used Butch's Black Powder Bore Shine, in the past, but only after using a bucket of hot soapy water. I did not feel comfortable about cleaning the breachplug area, and powder well with just the Bore Shine. How do you clean the breach area/powder well ?

I use Butch's Black Powder Bore Shine. But you need to be careful about getting it on your stock. I plug my flash hole with a tooth pick, but a little seeped by and took the finish off a small strip on my Lancaster.
I now also put a cleaning patch in the pan and let the cock down on it. It works great cleaning the gun.

I used it for about a year. Bought a case of it from Sportsman's warehouse. I first tried it because a bottle of it came with my GPR. I believe it does a great job but my concern was with flushing out the breech and ignition channel so I have switched back to just plain hot water, coat the bore, barrel, stock and lightly lube the lock mechanism with Ballistol Sportsman's Oil. I never thought of using it after the flushing session. Maybe I'll try that next weekend.

I really like it. In my sidelocks, I add it after removing the nipple and used a soaked pipe clearner. This is at home.

At the range when I'm done shooting, I'll put a few drops in after removing the nipple and work it into the breach area. I'll let it soak a little bit so it soften up the powder. I'll then run my ram rod down with a pactch to the breach and fire a couple of musket caps. You'd be surprised what you find at the end of the rod/patch combo. :shocked2: Thick black sludge. Clears out the chanel real well.

At home I'll finish it up as usual with the cleaning regiment. :hatsoff:
