The flintlock season in my area of PA has been snowy and cold, but on Friday 1/17 the sun came out and so did the deer. After one blown stalk I spotted another deer feeding out on a power line around noon. I was able to sneak along the edge with the deer facing away from me. I got within about 20 yards and it had no idea I was there, it just kept pawing away the snow and eating. I sat down, scooted out around the bush I was behind, then just had to wait for it to turn.

After several minutes it finally presented a quartering away, uphill shot. The .440 round ball passed through the heart and flattened out against the offside shoulder. It only ran about 40 yards leaving an easy trail to follow in the snow.

Nice job all around! That stalk had to be so satisfying after the fact and hard on your nerves during. Great shot too!

I put in a ton of hours this late season and couldn't get within 100+ yards of any deer. I have two buttons running around and a couple legal buck but only showing after dark. More disappointing than frustrating since I hoped to get a deer with the flintlock.
