buying a coehorn mortar

My black powder club does coehorn mortar shoots. They go out in a field and mark a spot, everyone shoots. Closet to the spot wins. I'd like to get my own to participate. The golf ball size one is the cheapest but I don't know if I could find something to shoot out of it. I wouldn't want to shoot a golf ball. A lot of people are using soda/soup cans filled with cement. What could you use in a golf ball size one to have some weight behind it? Anyone recommend a good place to buy? Thanks guys

I think that you can use the small size V8 cans with cement inside for that size mortar. They fit the one I had.

Just saw this thread.
Fox Industries was making golf ball sized solid steel balls some time ago. They were for use in GB sized mortars.
I bought some. They shot nicely.
I do not know if Fox still makes them.

I have a "golf ball" size field howitzer. You can cast balls, out of wheel weights, using a 1 pound size fishing mold. They are a hoot to shoot! :stir: :rotf:

I have been eyeballing the coehorn mortar and hardware thats listed in Dixie this week. I am looking for a small portable gun that I can use at civil war events that don't cost an arm and a leg.

They have coehorn mortars at Dixie Gun Works. I have a swivel gun that has a 1 3/4 inch bore (golf ball size) & that just happens to be the same size as toilet paper cardboard. I cut that in half & fill it with cement (roughly 4oz.). It is cheap,works well and doesn't ricochet.
