cabelas kentucky flint

hello all. i just ordered my fourth flint from cabelas .it is a kentucky . i hope it is a good one. any opinions are welcome.

I was looking at one for my middle grandson's first muzzle loader. I'm getting a Frontier from Rebel and I'm going to let him try it on for size, if it's a fit I may pick up a second Frontier from another guy otherwise I'll get him the Ky.rifle. Long as the frizzen is hardened right it should be as good as any other Italian rifle out there.

The Frontier rifle has a larger lock and uses a 7/8" flint. The Kentucky has a real small lock and uses either a 1/2" or 5/8" flint. The one i ordered from Cabelas i sent back the next day. Never even tried to fire it. The vent hole was almost covered by the pan and was way to the front of the pan. I figured it was going to have ignition problems enough with that small lock without adding to the problems with a bad placed vent.

I think some of those problems, eg the small vent hole, were fixed by Pedersoli a while ago. The small lock has never been a problem for me - it usually sparks well enough if you've got a good flint. Overall my 45 Kentucky has been an accurate, fun rifle for target and hunting, and has got me through my teething period as a BP shooter through 700 rounds or so.

My buddy has a Blue Ridge 50cal. flintlock from Cabela's thats a shooter. He did drill the touch hole out a bit.
