I have Lyman and Lee molds. Never have used a bag mold before. I will give this one a go and see how I like it. Except being made out of steel rather than brass they look pretty much alike? Greg. :)

The brass and steel molds look pretty much alike. When using either of them wear a heavy heat resistant glove as the handles of either will heat up by the time the mold is ready for a long run of casting.

I have a 54 Yorktown from Cabin Creek. it is the best rifle I own. the workmanship is exceptional and dealing with Brad is great. no doubt in my mind that cabin creek is a top notch shop.
good luck with yours!!

Be aware. That bag mold isn't a production mold. It is more of a 10 balls around the campfire mold. The handles get hot quickly, and you have to cut the sprues off by hand. Also the hinge can loosen causing an off center joint. But don't let me talk you out of it, just mentioning the possibilities. A cheap Lee aluminum mold is a better option for 100 at a time.

I became familiar with Brad Emig and his Cabin Creek business back in the 90's, and purchased a used, lefty, .50 cal. Yorktown. Since then, I've had Brad build a lefty, .54 cal. Yorktown which is my "go-to" deer hunting flintlock. My son, who is also a lefty, now totes the .50 cal. Yorktown.

I purchased a lefty, 24 gauge fowler kit from Brad a few years back, and enjoyed putting it together. It serves as my spring gobbler flintlock, and will be used during our Pennsylvania flintlock season for deer again this coming season, loaded with a patched .562 roundball.

Brad is a fine gun builder, a fine gentleman, and always willing to share his knowledge of flintlocks and what makes them work to their best advantage. You made a great purchase!

Fine rifle. I've a Cabin Creek early Virginia in .54. Fine fit/finish.

I really enjoyed the CLA this year and the local downtown area of Lexington.

I was eyeballing a Tim Williams Virginia in .54 really sweet...he may sell his personal rifle later this year, we'll see.

Also handled a .60 rifle that was prob the most balanced long gun I've held...the thinner barrel due to the caliber really made if perfectly balanced....got me to thinking.

Well Turtle, thanks for the response and remember, it's only money and ya can't take it with ya when yer gone! Greg :)

That is a sharp rifle. The contrast looks right on it. Enjoy and be safe!

My rifle looks a bit like yours with a lighter stain to it.
It is screaming for a wood patchbox tho....bothers me it doesn't have one and should to be period correct (or an early brass).
I'm going to make a wooden slider for it as that would make it perfect.

Don't be afraid to post a picture of your Cabin Creek muzzleloaders here. I would like to see them! Greg :)
