I like the idea of the coffee can heater. Is it drinking alcohol or rubbing alcohol? Here is another good idea. Some of these allow attachments to heat water.

Is there a reason not to use a wood stove (weight, etc)? Why not stay closer to period-correct? If that's not an option, buddy heaters work well (I have one in my garage and it works great there). I know MANY 'skinners who use the old sunflower heater and a propane bottle. The TP in a can with alcohol is VERY effective (we have those in our winter survival kits for the cars). Like a previous post stated, you have to watch to make sure you don't run out of alcohol. TP doesn't last too long dry.
