I'll try to post some pictures of my camp ice box. It is raised on a collapsable stand so I don't have to bend over and is buit "to H.C. specs so it doesn't have to be covered.

The ice box will hold eight gallons of milk, twelve dozen eggs, 10 lbs of cheese and butter, plus room for several lbs of meat. The top holds fourty lbs of crushed ice which drains for drinking water. So I only need to make one "store run " for a ten day rendezvous making ice cream each evening.Just add ice to the top and drain water as desired.

I forgot to mention the legs of the stand has ant traps for filling with borax to keep ants out! :idunno:

Now that is the cats butt!!! :hatsoff:
Was thinking of something like that myself.
Have Fun

Did you build this? If so, where did you get the plans? What is the inside lined with and what is the ice tub made of? Just interested in building one myself. Thanks

The ice tub and bottom are copper plate. ( I got the copper plate at a recycle yard years ago before the price of copper went up). The whole ice box is insulated with styroam sheets and the styrofoam is covered with the foil faced foam sheeting. To give the appearance of the old galvanised in origionals. I just made it as large as I could with the copper I had. My "plans" just developed as I built it around the copper ice tub. Since I build custom furniture I used the basic design of a white clad ice box and just put it on the stand . If you plan on making one for your own use and don't make icecream you would not one nearly as large. I think the next one I make will be a kitchen/icebox combination about the same size. This one is strictly for longer periods with a lot of storage. If you are the type of person who needs plans, drop me a p.t. with your email and I will try to send you some plans.

Thanks Ohioramrod, i don't really need plans per se. I also build cabinets. My main interest was in the copper ice tub and lining. ON that tub, did you braze it, weld it, etc.? Thanks

On the tub I used lead free solder. Also if you are making one remember to "punch" the center hole for the drain pipe so the bottom slopes into the drain. Also allow for a drain in the bottom since moisture condenses. :hmm:

This is just what I'm looking for.
I have been thinking of converting a Ice chest in to a Ice Box. I have been working on making a stand to stand an Ice chest on it's end, adding a latch to the door, putting 2 wire coated closet shelf's inside to store food, and a slide out mettle box at the top of the cooler to hold 1 bag of Ice. I think I will look into making a smaller Ice box like yours.
Thanks

Know it is not PC/HC BUT would a plastic tub work for the ice  ya!! I know but the price of copper is so high, what can you do?? :idunno:

I made one for a friend using aluminum flashing and sealed the seams with J.B. weld. It sure was cheaper than cooper! :idunno:

ohio ramrod I have a question? How does the “Ant trap” work? Would it work on Bull ants / wood ants?

I keep bees and have a real problem with Bull Ants killing out hives. I have filled coffee cans with water and placing the legs of the stand for hives in cans and fill with water but the water drys up fast in the Florida sun. Dose the Borax last long? do you mix water with it?
