would like to see more recipes or suggestions here. anyone have 'sourdough' ideas, or dried veggies/fruit recipes. I know the frontier folk had them well before advent of canned goods/meat. dried apples were fairly common as well as beans and squash.

Blizzard I usually just dry my apples after slicing about 1/4 inch think n dipping them in water with a splash of lemon juice in it to keep them from turning brown(ya can use 7UP or Sprite just as well). Sometimes I'll dust em down with cinnamon n sugar as I put them in the dehydrator for added flavor. When on the trail I carry a mixture of dried fruits in asmall canvas bag, might be apples, pears, cranberries, raisons, blueberris, currents most anything all mixed together to munch on while walking. When in camp I can toss a handfull or two in the pot to soak a bit and then put the pot(cup) next to the fire to warm while I eat whatever I have for supper. Makes a sort of crude warm compote, satisfies yer sweet tooth , tastes good n gives yer body some natural sugars to work on during the night in colder weather(helps ya stay warmer) sounds crazy but ya can break up some jerk in it too and it ain't bad, the saltiness of the jerk and the sweetness of the fruit sort of go together pretty well ,just some thought from an ol woods runner YMHS Birdman

I've dried squash in dehydrator to carry when camping and made a 'stew' with jerky, dried onion and dried tomato - fairly tasty.
