I too have aged to the point where the factory rear sight on my Grey Hawk and new Englander is useless to me. I put a Williams front fiber optic front sight on the Grey Hawk and just ordered a Skinner Lo-Pro in blue to install inn the factory T/C pre-drilled and tapped hole. For those that have the lo-pro setup were you able to use the standard front sight height? On my New Englander I will need to drill and tap for the Lo-pro as it is an early gun that is not drilled from the factory. I am considering scoping the Grey Hawk for my Ohio ML hunt next month but am not a huge fan of scopes on these rifles. I have several of the Skinner sight set ups on Marlin lever guns and really like them.

One is almost never out of luck provided he is creative. Use the tang bolt to secure whatever is needed as base to secure the sight. This is where you need to be creative making something simple that does the job. You also have the option to dill and tap the tang for more anchor points.

You will usually have to make a new longer tang screw if you go through the stock mount screw hole and the under side of the sight will need to be contoured to any radius of the tang.
Also drilling new holes in the tang is not usually the best idea as I have had to weld several that cracked through added sight holes near the breech plug. The best idea is to use the exiting holes if possible.
