I really respect your posts and always enjoy them. None of us know everything, I don't expect I ever will know even a part of it!
It is notable that the "thin end" of a swivel rammer is usually threaded for cleaning tools, like a worm or jag.
Quite often, the large end has a convex working face, ...for use against the palm, plus as I said earlier, is larger than the bore in a good many cases.
Rudyard will know better, but one of the British rifles with a swivel rammer also had the large end larger than the bore;
