There are several good posts that explain how to measure twist, but basically you put a cleaning patch on your cleaning jag and run it down the bore to the breech plug.
Put a mark on the ramrod flush with the muzzle and in line with the front sight.

Allowing the ramrod to turn with the twist, retract it until the mark has rotated 1/4 of a complete rotation. Measure the distance from the muzzle to the mark and multiply this distance by 4. The result is the rate of twist for your barrel. You may want to repeat this a few times to make sure the patched jag followed the grooves.

Armsport Inc is (was?) a importing house located in Miami, Florida. My BlueBook of Modern Black Powder Values says the "Hawken" imported by them came in .45, .50, .54 and .58 caliber percussion.
It has a "cap holder" in the stock and a chrome lined barrel.
Apparently it is a quality arm as the prices given by this book (in 2003) range from $285 to $425.

The book doesn't give the twist rate.

Thanks guys....................I will show some pics of it latter................I am primative in all things (still have to have my film deleoped at wal-art)I really do need to buy a new camera.

You might try Dixie Gun Works' web site. If they sell the gun, they might give the particulars including the twist.
