Cannon powder question

I'm not a blacksmith but I do have a forge and anvil to make simple things that I can use. Even cheap anvils are not cheap, and I wouldn't risk mine by firing it. It already has a crack anyway and could potentially shatter completely. I've long found the practice of anvil firing to be interesting. I'll leave my anvil where it sits and fire my cannons instead.
