Cannon powder vs Fg

I have a small swivel gun, it has a 2" bore and the walls are 1/2 " thick. The person I purchased it from told me it's made from a solid piece steel (schedule 80?) that was drilled and lined. In the passed the person used cannon powder and only fired blanks, no projectile. I intend to do he same. He used a 35mm canister as a measure and use two of them. about 2 oz.

I only have Fg powder, I was thinking Fg burns alot faster then cannon powder. So, I could use about 1 oz of Fg and be Ok

Anybody have any thoughts?

This sounds like a piece of pipe to me. you are taking your life in your hands and anyone nearby when you shoot it. A piece of pipe is not a cannon. The wall thickness should be at least equal to the bore size at the breach. I have seen this type of Cannon blow apart before. It had fired many times with no problems, then one day BOOM, the breach end blew apart, the breach plug plate went through a 55 gal drum that was behind it and the fender of a truck. luckaly the gun was fired by remote from 50' away. I would not recommend any type of powder be used at all. :nono:

Cannoneer, I agree wholeheartedly with what Flintlock75 stated. When you say schedule 80, you are referring to a specific wall thickness of line pipe, which varies with the pipe size (diameter). In addition, without any data, you have no way of determining if the pipe is seamed or seamless or the material (type of steel) from which it was fabricated. While line pipe is stout stuff WHEN USED FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE, it was never designed to withstand the shock loads which would be placed upon it when firing with black powder - even a blank charge. Even though one might be successful using pipe material for a miniature cannon, it MUST NOT be used for larger pieces due to the greater internal area upon which the pressure of the burning powder impinges.

Please, please find another barrel made of more suitable material. A deal which may imperil your life or the lives of others is no deal at all.

Re-read what MrFlintlock45 and Mr. Acorn Mush have said until it is the unshakeable truth in your head that it is and take it back to get your waupum back or keep it just cause it looks cool.

As a side note I had thought Fg and cannon powder were the same

This pipe is 1 1/2" to thin in all directions for safety. Rule of thumb for cannon is 1 caliber thick in all directions ., minimum ., especially for a swivel which is in your face. A 2"bore would call for a 6 "breech . thats a heavy duty swivel !

The Swivel at the back is 3 1/4 at the breach .
The forward swivel is 4" round stock bored 1". Yea its over built ., but I am still firing it today. Be safe. This is what it looks like on the muzzle end. Buffed is really cool.

Another pipe bomb in waiting. :shake: :barf: I suggest that you spike the vent and take a sledge hammer to the muzzle. You should read the permanent post "Cannon Diasters".
