Not too long ago I decided to pull out a old CVA Hawken that I built from a kit and checker the wrist. At this point I've got both panels pretty much finished aside from a 2nd border around each panel, maybe bring the diamonds to a point, and of course do somethin to reseal the wood. Problem I've got is that I can't decide between bringin' the diamonds to points or leavin it english style, of less importance is the fact that it seems like it's missin somethin'. To the point, I'd like to know what ya'll think bout' the situation. Now, before ya'll start tellin' me that it's my choice, I'd just like a bit of input from someone other than my dad. At any rate, thanks in advance.

The diamonds don't show up real well in the pictures because the stupid camera decided to make my lines look curved. The edges are a bit rough since I haven't quite beaten the overlap monster, but hey.. practice makes perfect.

Turn the checkering cuters in the handle so that they cut on the pull. No more over runs. I don't know why they don't set them up that way form the factory.

Point them up a little. But first, brush all the dust out of the checkering and then see how you like it.

I think the reason you perceive something missing is because this is a pretty simple checkering pattern. I would cut a border and stop, and chock this one up to experience. Heck, at least you have the moxie to attempt the work. On the other hand, it's a good functional grasping surface.
